HO Scale LRC Locomotive Support

Important DC Advisory

Do NOT use MRC 1300-series DC controllers with any of your Rapido locomotives. The RailPower 1300 is notorious for voltage spikes and it WILL destroy your locomotive. There is no “if” about it. We will try to help you if we have the parts, but we are not responsible for locomotive damage due to voltage spikes in your power supply. As well, we will not repair any locomotive damaged by an MRC 1300-series controller (or any other "train set" DC controller) unless you have retired the controller. Otherwise the damage will soon reoccur. “Train set” DC controllers should not be used with any modern model locomotives.

General Problems and Inquiries

If your model arrives with damage or there is any other issue, the best thing to do is to call our support team. They take care of all of our warranty repairs and they are all swell guys. The toll-free number is 1-855-LRC-6917 (1-855-572-6917) (outside North America, + 1 905-474-3314 or 905-474-3324).

Note About Sound and Speakers

Upon inspecting our LRC locomotives, we found several that had rattling speakers. This was caused by one of two reasons:

  • A screw or other bit of metal flotsam or jetsam got stuck to a speaker magnet during the final stages of assembly and it wasn't found during testing at the factory. This can easily be fixed by removing the shell and pulling out the offending bit of debris.
  • The screws holding in the power trucks are interfering with the speakers in some engines. If this is happening on your engine, you need to add some styrene shims on the little shelves that hold the speaker. Dan recommends .040" styrene.

Thanks to Chris Lyon and the team at Credit Valley Railway for helping with this.

The sounds of 6917 were quite muddy at full RPM. There is nothing wrong with your speaker if the sounds don't seem as crisp as our other sound-equipped locomotives. This is due to 6917 sitting outside for over 10 years before we got it started again. So unless you hear a rattle, there is nothing wrong with your sound system.

LRC Passenger Car Trucks

We are aware that our LRC passenger car trucks can be a bit stiff. In response to this we have produced a new ball-bearing equipped wheelset that is available at our cost of only $7.95/set. Simply swap these into your trucks and watch them roll away!

PLEASE NOTE: THIS ITEM IS CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK.

If you want to improve the existing wheelsets, we have discovered a trick that will help improve their rolling abilities immensely.

On our models each wheel is pressed into a plastic tube which forms the axle. Between the axle and each wheel is a small steel sleeve that the wheels are designed to spin in. The addition of some extra lubrication can help the rolling qualities of these wheelsets immensely. Remove each wheelset from the car. Then twist each wheel out of the plastic axle – you may need pliers to hold the axle. Once you have done that, the steel sleeve will slide right off, and you will see that there is a little “shoulder” built into the wheel that it rides on. Put a small drop of oil on this shoulder, and slide the sleeve back on. Then, slide the wheel back into the plastic axle, and repeat on the other side. Once all of the wheelsets are done, simply reinstall them onto the car. Your car should be ready to go.
