We've been dropping hints for weeks and we're finally here to confirm that the Rapido Trains team is hitting the road...by GO bus?! For two weeks in March from the 17th through the 28th, our team members will be visiting some of our favorite railway museums, clubs, and hobby shops in the USA. Our tour will kick off in Southern California and we’ll be making numerous stops all the way back to Toronto.
First off, please welcome Rapido New Look bus 1029 to the fleet! Built in 1971 for Golden Gate Transit and originally numbered 738, the 1029 is a Suburban “Fishbowl” and as such came equipped with reclining seats, luggage racks, reading lights and lacked interior stanchions. Designated a T8H-5305A-138, the bus is powered by an 8V71 Detroit Diesel matched to a VS-2 automatic transmission. Unlike our other bus, GM New Look 3380, the 1029 is capable of a higher top speed for highway travel. In service with GGT from 1971 and well into the 1990s, we purchased the 738 from Dreamliner Bus Leasing & Service in 2023 and have completely restored the 1029 and repainted it into the classic GO Transit livery.
NEW! HO Scale New Look Suburban "Fishbowl" Bus
We're bringing back the New Look Bus in HO scale—this time it's the Suburban! The Suburban features only a front door and high-back seats in all its intercity, express and charter service goodness. Our model represents the second through fourth generations of the New Look Bus, spanning from the mid-1960s right up until the 80s, and comes with agency-specific details from advertising panels to roof hatches.
Every model comes with incredible detail not seen in any other bus model below 1:24 scale. That includes full and accurate underbody; correct tubular body profile (3D scanned from the real thing); zillions of rivets; separately-applied details; multi-color interior; working interior lights, headlights and destination sign lights; positionable front wheels; and more! This is not your father's bus model.
Make sure to check our Facebook and road trip page daily for updates on the road. Find out more about the refurbished and repainted New Look Surburan Bus here, including a GO Transit scheme to match our actual bus!
We hope to meet you at one of our many stops for a meet and greet, to find out more about our current roster of products, see samples and grab some freebies!
